This issue (April) of the DEAF BAYOU e-news dedicates to The Baton Rouge Frostop, one of LSD alumni’s favorite place to eat out & gather in the old days.  It locates few blocks away from old LSD campus and still stands for nearly 60 years which was first started in 1950’s.  As you may aware of photo of Frostop earlier by clicking on above-image, that’s where Editor Dan usually stopped by to place an order, ice cream in a root beer mug…ah, good!

 

Attemtion to Deaf-Blinders (DBers):  As you may aware of many upcoming events surrounding this state of Louisiana, you could schedule Support Service Provider (SSP) ahead of time by contacting Bruce Dunn, SSP Coordinator by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or by videophone at (337) 620-1932.  With SSP, you could have a great chance to enjoy somewhere for your pleasure from isolated.

 

Editor’s Note:  SSP defines guider and visual information, but not an interpreter.

 

Attention to Deaf-Sighters:  Wanna’ being SSP, you could contact Bruce Dunn, SSP Coordinator.  Besides SSP, as for being tactile interpreter at any such meetings, you need to contact your local interpreter agency like DAC to fill out the contract.

 

Editor’s Note:  Being SSP AND Tactile interpreter, it can be same person working two roles in same day, but separately time sheet from separated agencies.

 

Example:

 

  • 8:00 – 9:00 AM:  John Doe as SSP picks up & brings DBer. (One hour)
  • 9:00 – 11:00 AM:  John Doe as tactile interpreter interpret with DBer in a meeting  (Two hours)
  • 11:00 – Noon:  John Doe as SSP brings back DBer home.  (One hour)

LSD Star Duos:  Philip Hayes & Joy Fraychineaud were named 2008 Deaf All-Americans.

2007 – 2008 Highlights & Honors:

 

Boy - Phillip Hayes - Senior - 5' 8" - point guard.  All - State Second team - MVP District 9 - C. All-Tournament Teams: Runnels Invitational, Leopard Classic (OSD) and Mason-Dixon. Averaged 25 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 5.1 assists.  Scored 51 points in game against Class B hearing school, losing in over-time.

2007 – 2008 Highlights & Honors:

 

Girl - Joy Fraychineaud - Senior - 5' 3" - point guard.  9 - C First team All District,   All - tournament teams: Runnels Invitational, Leopard Classic (OSD) and Mason-Dixon.  Joy also won three-competition at Mason-Dixon.  Averaged 11.2 points per game, 4.6 rebounds, 5.1 steals, and 8.3 assists.

 

Both Philip and Joy are being recruited by Gallaudet University.

 

Track & Field

There will be scheduled competing LHSAA state champions at LSU Bernie Moore on Friday, May 2nd.  Wear GREEN…Come on & PACK the field!  Mark your calendar!  LSD Boys aim for 4PEAT for winnng state champions while Girls are trying to take monkey off their back by claiming 6th runner-up in the last seven (7) years without a title.
