As of March 2007:
Welcome to DBAction! We hope you find this list friendly, informative and helpful. We look forward to your participation and enthusiasm on this list!
The topic of this list is DB Citizens for Political Action. The purpose of this list is to educate ourselves, learn to advocate for our needs, learn how the legislative process works, and to work together to find political, educational, corporate, nonprofit, and private solutions to problems we face in our everyday lives as deafblind people. The issues and challenges that we face on a daily basis are many! They include the need for better communication, environmental and information access; better educational, vocational and employment opportunities; more accessible transportation and medical-health care services; more comprehensive adaptive skills and mobility training geared toward the "total needs" of deafblind people; more social, recreational and traveling opportunities, just to name a few!
DBAction is NOT a political action committee ("PAC") that seeks to endorse any political organization or candidate for election.
DBAction is not only a forum for sharing thoughts and ideas but it is also an interactive forum where members can choose to work together on various DB-related projects. We welcome DB and non-DB members, professionals and nonprofessionals alike!
Members of DBAction are encouraged to participate, ask questions and contribute their knowledge and expertise on DB advocacy, policies, resources, services, projects and any relevant historical information that will increase our knowledge and galvanize us into action!
DBAction is NOT a place for off-topic chats, chain letters or bullying or insensitive comments. Flaming, abusive, accusatory and/or childish behavior will NOT be tolerated. It is expected that all members will treat each other with tolerance, courtesy and respect. Light humor is always welcome!
Violations of the above rules will be handled in this manner:
First offense: Offender will receive a private, gentle reminder with an explanation of why the offending post was inappropriate.
Second offense: The offender will receive a private, stronger reminder with a warning.
Third offense: Offender will be put on Review and/or suspended for an unspecified time until a satisfactory resolution can be reached by all concerned parties.
Hopefully, a gentle reminder of list rules will be all that is needed.
