Since some of the 'brothers of 6' (Dan, Patrick, Roger, Phillip, Arnold, and Gerald) have a strong association with Baton Rouge (i.e. living at Louisiana School for the Deaf (LSD)), so I thought a LSU mascot trivia may be appropriate. OK current LSU mascot (called Mike VI), was originally started by the Athletic Director trainer Chellis 'Mike' Chambers in 1930's.
The first tiger mascot MIKE I (born 1935), and like his father, was originally named Sheik from Little Rock Zoo. Interestingly, MIKE I remembered his original name because even years later the handlers could get him to roar just by calling 'Sheik'.
We from Lafayette are tied to BR for distribution of state funds, but as you see, 'Sonny the Sheik" 9my father) and MIKE the Tiger were both called Sheik at one time. We are all roaring & ragin CAJUNs, so GO LSU & GO ULL :) !
