To Those on SSDI; Contact Your Representatives & Senators to Washington DC |

Social Security disability on verge of insolvency; please pass this to those you know that are on Disability, or to friends, who know someone who is disabled....
When you or others discuss this issue with your elected Representatives, remind them that SSDI is a fund which should be *fully* available to those who are truly disabled, that had worked all their lives for, and that Fund should not be taken from by any other Agency for any reason! We CAN stop this "trainwreck" but it will take our dedicated and consistant contact with our Representatives and Senators!

WASHINGTON (AP) — Laid-off workers and aging baby boomers are
flooding Social Security's disability program with benefit claims,
pushing the financially strapped system toward the brink of insolvency.
Applications are up nearly 50 percent over a decade ago as people with disabilities lose their jobs and can't find new ones in an economy that has shed
nearly 7 million jobs.
New congressional estimates say the trust fund that supports Social
Security disability will run out of money by 2017, leaving the program
unable to pay full benefits, unless Congress acts. About two decades
later, Social Security's much larger retirement fund is projected to run dry as well.

Note: Why hasn't Congress "fixed this" long before the alleged date of "Insolvency by 2017" Surely they have been aware of this all along?
I certainly don't have all the answers, but obviously we need to keep in *very* close touch with both our Representatives and Senators to Washington, D.C., to start the dialog process *now*, so as to find creative ways to keep Social Security Disability intact; those of us on SSDI worked all our lives, and paid into that Fund, with the implicit trust those monies would be available, should we be unable to work.
Also (if I understand this correctly), there should be a bi-partisan measure to immediately seal the SSDI Fund from any more "dipping into" by any other Agenices!
I realize there will be belt-tightening re: SSDI Disability, as our population "grays," and there are less numbers of people in the Workforce to contribute to it, but there should *not* be the continuance of the unacceptably long-wait times for one to find out if they are eligible for Disability (it can take *years*), and ensuring one is dealt with respectfully and with dignity, when applying for Disability Benefits.
