Poem
A Lone Tree
Can you see my roots are firmly bound
With no freedom to truly call my own
My life ebbs and flows with the seasons
And I am captive, never free to roam.
Can you see my outstretched branches
Like hands lifted up in holy supplication
As light streams through my green veins
It gives me strength, yet I stand alone.
Can you see how I grow larger each year
Through winters and warm spring thaws
I have the power to regenerate myself
And to spread a bounteous shelter to all.
As each year passes, another circle grows
All is hidden within me until it is revealed
A day will come when my death begins
Faithfully marking the passage of time.
