Subject: U.S. Census 2020
Hi Everyone:
As you know, the next U.S. Census is nine years away. But time flies quickly in the political world!
Pat Boyd and I have been worked diligently to ensure the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community was included in the U.S. Census 2010. This included providing an ASL signing Census worker to assist Deaf and Hard of Hearing fill out the 2010 Census form. This was a major breakthrough in the history of Sonoma County, as this accessibility had not been provided until then.
Now, we have a bigger goal to attain: the inclusion of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Community as a cultural group to be counted among other cultural groups on the 2020 U.S. Census. This will bring the Deaf Community on an equal playing field as a full fl edged cultural group that must be included and counted as part of the U.S. population-minority group inclusion.
In order for us to ratify the U.S. Census for the year 2020, we need your support! Please take a moment to go to the website below and sign the petition to demand the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Community be included on the U.S. Census 2020 form, etc. Also, please send the petition to your friends, co-workers, family and anyone else you know on your distribution lists, so they will have the opportunity to participate in this historical moment.
Pat and I will present this petition to our local congress person in Sonoma County, when we meet with her. An anticipated meeting is projected for sometime in August.
Your participation will be greatly appreciated and I thank you all in advance.
Here is the petition site.
