A Great Sense of Loss

An old antique mantel clock
Was gifted to my grandmother
On her wedding day in 1920
And when she had passed away
It had been handed down to me.

But then the clock was stolen
And I felt a great sense of loss.

Five genuine silver dollar coins
Dating back to the late 1800's
Were given to me by my father
I kept them safe in a collection
Hidden in a secured drawer.

But then the coins were stolen
And I felt a great sense of loss.

A gold band with a single diamond
Given to me by my first husband
Was to be lovingly passed down
To my firstborn daughter Meilani
Who would have cherished it.

But then the ring was stolen
And I felt a great sense of loss.

A playroom with books and toys
Soft teddy bears and care bears
Rainbow Brite dolls and ponies
And cute Cabbage Patch dolls
Gave the girls hours of pleasure.

But then their toys were stolen
And I felt a great sense of loss.

When robbers broke into our home
They stole away our TV and VCR
And knocked down the ivy plants
Spewing dirt onto our ivory carpet
Then they made their hasty escape.

But then our trust was stolen
And I felt a great sense of loss.

Some things may not be worth much
Some may have sentimental value
Some may see its worth increase
But when someone robs us blind
It hurts all of us, oh yes, it does.

But then all meaning was stolen
And I felt a great sense of loss.
