Say No to Legalized Discrimination at Movie Theaters
You've seen the previews. Everyone's talking about it. All your friends and family want to watch the year's hottest movie on opening day. Here's our chance to make it happen!
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is considering updating its regulations regarding captioned movies at movie theaters. Importantly, the DOJ is asking for comments from the public – that’s you!
We need your help to ensure that all movies at all times in all movie theaters are fully accessible for the deaf and hard of hearing. The DOJ proposal, however, would require movie theaters to show closed captioning at 50% of movie showings within a 5-year time period.

NAD Says Farewell to Crawford
The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) thanks Rosaline Crawford, director of the NAD Law and Advocacy Center, for her years of dedicated service and wishes her well upon her departure from the NAD on December 31, 2010. Rosaline expects to begin working in January 2011 as an attorney advisor at the Federal Communications Commission, Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, Disability Rights Office.

NAD Seeks Staff Attorney
The National Association of the Deaf (NAD), as the nation’s oldest and largest consumer organization safeguarding the civil, human and linguistic of deaf and hard of hearing Americans invites applications for a staff attorney position with its NAD Law & Advocacy Center. This staff attorney position will focus primarily on policy issues with a secondary focus on litigation.

NAD Files Suit on Behalf of Deaf Boy Scout
The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and the law firm of Chason, Rosner, Leary & Marshall L.L.C., filed a complaint in federal court against the National Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts of America (NCAC), alleging that the NCAC has failed to ensure effective communication for one of its troop members, Wolfgang Staley, who is deaf. The complaint was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Maryland..
