Counting Obsessions
I'm always counting, yes, counting
Total numbers of steps up and down
Total numbers of steps to the corner
Total numbers of steps to the store.
I'm always counting, yes, counting
Total numbers of dirty stockings
Total numbers of dirty underwear
Total numbers of dirty clothing.
I'm always counting, yes, counting
Total numbers of untrimmed branches
Total numbers of unseen potholes and dips
Total numbers of snowbanks and black ice.
I'm always counting, yes, counting
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven
Eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen
Twenty, two hundred, two thousand.
As a person who cannot easily see
It's important to keep track of how many
Items there may be so that none are lost
But the one that can't be found ...
... Oh no!
I gotta go back
And count everything
All over again, grrrr!
