*Helen Keller Unveiling Ceremony
WASHINGTON DC - In October, Dan Arabie, President, attended the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Helen Keller on behalf of AADB and to network with others attending the event. The unveiling, which took place in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, was headed by the Congressional delegation from Alabama, Ms. Keller''s home state. Dignitaries such as Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, Alabama Governor Bob Riley, several Majority Leaders from Congress, and Carl Augusto, executive director of the American Foundation for the Blind, also attended and spoke at the event. Keller Johnson Thompson, Helen Keller's great-niece, also attended the unveiling.
The statue, which shows Helen Keller as a young girl holding her hand under a water pump, was placed in the Capitol for public viewing. The statue will become part of the National Statuary Hall Collection, which is comprised of two statues from each state to honor notable men and women from these states.
