Heartbreak

When he first saw her
It was love at first sight
She wasn't ready for him
The time wasn't right.

He broke down
Her inner defenses
With patience, love
and understanding.

Hot fires of passion
Became all-consuming
One could not live
Without the other.

She needed him
He filled her
They became one
Entwined in love.

The church ...
What the church ...
Could the church ...
F--- the church!

The axe came down
He wasn't free to remarry
Go your separate ways
Date other men.

No, no, no, no!
This can't be!
Oh God!
Why?

Heartbreak
Torn apart
Drive the stake
In my heart.

Life goes on
As it must
Gone the joy
And my trust.

He didn't stay
He wasn't worth it
He threw away
A good thing.

Then one day, a phone call
And who should say, Hello
But the only one
The only one.

I'm leaving the church
He told her
I can't go on living
Without you in my life.

I need you
I love you
I've been a fool
Will you marry me?
