Out of the Pool and Back to School

Mr. ILLY woke up one morning and did his normal morning routine that included feeding and walking his dog then getting some other things done. He took a look at his calendar and noticed it was the last week of August.

Knowing that some schools had already started as early as the second week of August he was still thinking of all the kids that had probably done a lot of summer swimming. The reason he was thinking about swimming was because he enjoyed getting in the pool when he had a chance. He loved deep end diving and swimming under water.

Well, this late in August was not really a time Mr. ILLY wanted to go swimming although he guessed the pool would probably be free of kids.

However, something kept nagging at him to go to the pool so he changed into his swimming gear and went to the pool. Sure enough no one was there so he dove into the deep end and started having some watery fun.

He was swimming around when he noticed someone else had entered the pool area and was getting ready to enter the water from the shallow end. As cheerful as he could, Mr. ILLY said hello to the other person, a little boy around 7 years old and as politely as he could asked the fellow why he was not in school.

The little boy replied, "Because my mother is my teacher."

"You mean your mother is your teacher at the elementary school?" asked Mr. ILLY, with a puzzled expression on his face.

"No!" said the little boy. "My mother teaches me everything at home."

"Oh!" thought Mr. ILLY to himself, "a home schooled child!" Then he said to the little fellow, "Do you like being home schooled?"

The little boy replied without hesitation "YES!" "I love it! It gives me the opportunity to have more fun in the summer while all the other kids go to school. I get taught at home and can play around more than they can! Besides, I am not just home schooled but also pool schooled!"

"Pool schooled?" asked Mr. ILLY. "And just what is that?"

"It is when my mother tells me to get out of the house and out of her hair so I come here to swim and splash around while at the same time remembering everything my mother taught me before she shooed me out the door!"

Mr. ILLY's mouth dropped as he thought to himself, "Wow, this kid is smart! Home schooled and pool schooled, maybe we could use more kids like him across America!"
