The Dog Days of August

It was a nice first day of August to go for a walk and get some good ole fresh air plus exercise. The weather was nice because of a much needed rain that had soaked the ground.

Mr. ILLY, the Deaf-Blind Clown was out walking his dog, Chester, and enjoying the breeze after the rain. He was hanging on to one end of a long leash making sure Chester stayed in his limited visual field. All of a sudden, Chester, a beagle and Spanial mix stood still sending his long floppy ears up and tail out, alert to something.

Watching his dog, Mr. ILLY said, "Well, what is it boy, what you hear or see?" Chester took a look at his master then turned to continue looking straight ahead. "Woof, Woof," Chester barked and then Mr. ILLY saw what he was barking at as there standing directly in front of him was a medium sized dog, a bit shorter than Chester!

"Well, hello there, fellow," said Mr. ILLY, "how you doing?" The dog and Chester both woofed in unison! "I guess that means you are doing well, huh?" Mr. ILLY asked to another warm "Woof" from the other dog.

"Come on Ches," Mr. ILLY called to Chester. "Let's go!" Chester fell in stride beside his master and so did the other dog as they continued their walk.

"Woof, Woof" came another bark as Mr. ILLY, Chester, and the unknown dog, soon to be called Dog # 1, came near a house where not one but three dogs ran up to greet the others. "Oh WOW," Mr. ILLY said out loud to himself. "Geez, five dogs!" holding up 5 fingers and wiping his brow. "I only know the name of one!" "I guess the others will be Dog # 2, 3, & 4!"

"Hey Ches, so many of your doggie friends live around here! I hope we can get home without them following you!" But the other 4 dogs fell in stride as Mr. ILLY walked on with Chester.

As they walked past a few houses there were no problems as the five dogs walked with Mr. ILLY. Then they came to another home where this big 'pony' sized dog ran up to meet them. Mr. ILLY wanted to start running away from all the dogs but they all followed him and Chester.

Six dogs and one man, Mr. ILLY was certainly outnumbered and looked like a dog-keeper from the zoo! While he kept walking, the six dogs started barking to each other as if they were having a doggie pow-wow!

As Mr. ILLY and Chester neared their home, the other 5 dogs began to scatter and go to their respective homes. Mr. ILLY let himself and Chester in the house and plopped into a chair to wind down.

"Hey Ches," Mr. ILLY asked Chester in doggie talk, "would you mind telling me what you and the other dogs were yelping about?"

"Sure," woofed Chester, "they were talking and laughing about how they came to visit YOU and not me because they were curious why that strange man looked so funny in a clown costume and weird hair!"
