Part 30 of 40 - Saturday Night at Dan's Home
Once more Betty and Yenter loaded their vehicles and took everyone to their temporary dwellings. Yenter led the way transporting Tom, Mark and Dan. We pulled in a close second. Melly and I drove with Betty. It seemed to be a quick ride with no complications.
Once we were all inside Dan's home, some tactile signing was carried on, but no one hung around for long. Hugs and goodbyes and more hugs occurred with everyone at Dan's. It was a fast pace long weekend, and emotions sometimes reached beyond excitement. As far as I know, Tom and Dan never crushed anyone with their mighty but loving bear hugs.
Melanie and I packed our bags! Yenter would be taking us to the bus terminal in the morning. He was to arrive at 5:50 a.m. I was ready for bed early Saturday evening, and Melanie being tired came suggesting we pull out the couch to prepare for bed. I did that. Except not all the way. Mark and Tom were tactile signing there. Melanie suggested they move into another area. Then I was able to fully open the pullout bed.
The next morning, Yenter arrived about five minutes early. He took our two large pieces of luggage to his vehicle and loaded them in the trunk. Within a few minutes we were off. Once we got out of the residential area, it was pretty much a straight drive to the bus terminal. The last hugs with a few thank you's were released once our luggage was placed outside the terminal building.
Yenter, with his friend Betty, provided great service during the time we were visiting Lafayette. The emotions did not carry over into tears. Our luggage was taken from the trunk and Yenter was off. I sensed a feeling of coming back into the real world again. It was almost like leaving paradise.
