Louisiana-Bound (2008)

Part 27 of 40 Leaving the Picnic was Difficult

Slowly the large group thinned out. There was only a cleanup crew and a few stragglers left there by 7 p.m. I estimated over two to three hundred attended the picnic. From beginning to end a spirit of cooperation prevailed.

I thought about the two separate meals where mostly crawfish was served. At the picnic they were served on metal platters with sides an inch and a half or so deep. Two medium lobsters would be equivalent to a meal of crawfish. Those shellfish didn't have a lot of meat, but there was plenty of them.

How fascinating to watch a person eat them the first time at Langenaux's. There they were served in deep metal bowls. I passed, on watching anyone eating them at the picnic. I think I already knew who the king was. No not Elvis, lol. I am talking about the crawfish eating king. That was Yenter!

So the picnic ended somewhere before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday the 19th of April. But earlier the news spread that we were invited to the home of Dan's parents for a special dinner. So the day wasn't over.

Betty would be our driver to Mr. Arabie's home in the country. Yenter was a second driver. The drive was not without uniqueness. Directions were not clear, so at one point, Yenter and Betty pulled beside each other on the road with their windows open, stopped and discussed the way to the Arabie's. No need to pull over and get out of the vehicles! They were efficient!
