Louisiana-Bound! (2008)
Part 8 of 40: First Evening in Lafayette
The parking lot at Lafayette was crowded. I made sure to gather our luggage quickly. Then a bubbly person came through the terminal entrance doors which Melanie and I were walking towards. We spotted each other, both sure we had made our connection. A few words confirmed it. The young woman's name was Nikki Arabie, the daughter of Dan Arabie who invited us down for the Cajun picnic. She greeted us in a very friendly manner.
Then Nikki went inside and came back with Dan and Tom Peters. Tactile signing commenced after initial hugs. The excitement soared! Melanie and Dan were left signing while Nikki helped me load the luggage into the trunk of her car. Nikki then drove us back to Dan's place. The long main street was named Johnston. Then a few short streets took us to where Dan and Nikki lived. Finally we had a short drive, about ten minutes. How pleasant a ten-minute drive was after being on the road for 36 hours.
More hugs followed after everyone re-assembled at Dan's place! Then Nikki and I went to Walmart to get some needed supplies. For me it was bottled water, orange juice, Coke, kleenex, cough drops and paper towels. Just a short stop! Then it was back to Dan's home where Melanie, Dan and Tom continued to chat the night away. In addition, two SSPs had dropped by to check us out, their names being Yenter Tu and Betty Dang. Feeling miserable with a bad cold, I couldn't wait to go to bed! Eventually, lights were turned out and we finally had some privacy. We would sleep on the pullout couch in the living room. Melanie felt it was very comfortable. She liked the thin firm mattress.
