The Crawfish of Laffville |
|
"Yay," went a loud yell from somewhere on the horizon. It was coming from a group of people standing near a big metal tub full of those small lobster-like critters of Louisiana swamps called 'Crawfish'.
Mr. ILLY, the Deaf-Blind Clown was in the group and saw the crawfish, wondering why they were so popular. He knew folks liked to eat the crawfish meat but for the life of him, he could not see much meat on a single crawfish!
Now the folks of Laffville, LA are true Cajun crawfish eaters. They love the crawfish of their natural land! Every year, the deaf-blind community of Laffville hosts a boiled crawfish picnic. It is a fundraising event that helps bring in funds for services for the deaf-blind and blind communities.
Mr. ILLY was at this year's picnic with a plate heaped with crawfish. He was enjoying cracking and twisting the crawfish open to get to the meaty section! He popped a couple of crawfishes in his mouth and felt a rumbling in his tummy!
It was a big rumble unlike a normal tummy growl when hunger strikes. It made Mr. ILLY's tummy shake like a bowl full of jelly!
Then all of a sudden there were voices coming from Mr. ILLY's tummy and a conversation filtered up. It was a conversation from the crawfish he had just eaten.
Crawfish 1: "Man, it sure is dark down here!"
Crawfish 2: "Sure is, but hey more of our friends are coming down the chute!"
Crawfish 1: "Yeah, when we see a lot of our friends maybe we should have a party!"
Plop, plop, plop went the sound as three more crawfish hit the bottom. Then some wet and sticky sweet stuff came down wetting all the crawfish. They also felt some corn hit them on the head as Mr. ILLY swallowed down some corn.
More crawfish found their way down the chute and the first two who had started the conversation started laughing and singing as more of their friends joined them in the dark and dank dungeon.
Up the chute Mr. ILLY took his last bite of crawfish and washed all the food down. All the crawfish started whooping it up! Man, Mr. ILLY looked like he was really laughing so hard and it was all because all the crawfish he had eaten were having a big party in Mr. ILLY's tummy!
Mr. ILLY finally was able to stop his laughing spell because all the crawfish had given up their final breath and the tummy tickling had stopped. So with a sigh of relief Mr. ILLY went on his way and got ready to do a skit for all the people at the picnic.
"That was a fun picnic," Mr. ILLY thought as he got ready to leave the building. "Sure was fun to have a party of crawfish making me laugh but what would you expect in Laffville, LA?"
