Louisiana-Bound (2008)
Part 1 of 40: Getting to the Bus Station
Melanie and I left our home on April 15, 2008, about 10:30 a.m. and walked to the bus stop. It was about a mile walk and hard work. But it paid off as we arrived about two minutes before the bus came. The bus took a tour around a section of the city before getting to the Bay City bus terminal about 40 minutes later. A direct route would have taken ten minutes.
The bus terminal at Bay City needed a good cleaning. Melanie and I could see that. The ticket clerk did tag our luggage well for the long trip to Lafayette, Louisiana which would be helpful later in making sure we reached the right destination. We went outside to wait for the bus to depart, hoping the air was better there. It was a vast improvement going from stale air to free-flowing air. The Indian Trails bus came within ten minutes. A short time later we were on our way to the first stop, Saginaw Michigan.
So, of course, that name always reminds me of the song, "Saginaw Michigan." But I am not sending the lyrics now. Instead I will send a poem that I wrote about the bus terminal.
Bay City Bus Station
Usually the smaller the city or the town
The more they turn the clean dial down
Quality often drops from below an 'A'
Under the line acceptable and okay.
So grin and bear if you think you can
You must come back this way again
It isn't often that you take Greyhound
And some sanitary stations are around.
