‘Twas the day before New Year’s
'Twas the day before New Year's and all through Mr. ILLY's fun house there was no clown stirring, not even a flicker, because Mr. ILLY had decided he needed some rest.
Ever since Thanksgiving, when he had dressed as a turkey and been scared silly by a group of fake hunters, Mr. ILLY had been on the go. So he thought he should catch up on some needed rest and go through his clown inventory to see if there were things he needed to stock up on.
He had just settled down and was going through his things when suddenly his video phone light began flashing. Clicking the remote to answer the call, he saw the face of a very sad woman who explained why she had called.
"You don't know me," she signed, "but wouldn't you please consider coming to Mercy Hospital to cheer up sick children?" she asked. "These children have been here at the hospital since before Christmas and are as restless as children can become," she explained. "They could use some laughter."
Without giving it a second thought Mr. ILLY said he would get over to the hospital as soon as he could change into his costume and crank yp his clown car!
Upon arriving at the hospital Mr. ILLY was greeted by a loud chorus of "Yay", stomping feet, table-top banging, and waving hands.
After three hours of performing skits, twisting balloons, and just plain cutting up, one little boy using a wheelchair was so happy to see Mr. ILLY and started using some simple sign language to tell Mr. ILLY that he was so happy to be laughing again. This made ILLY very happy. Then the little boy said, "let's have a wheelchair race!" He showed Mr. ILLY where to get an unused wheelchair and he and Mr. ILLY went dowm one hall and up another! Other wheelchair using kids joined the fun and not a single complaint came from the nursing staff! Everyone knew how much fun was being had!!
Mr. ILLY got home very tired but happy as it gave him great joy to cheer up the sick children and give them hope for a brand new year!
