Seabeck, Washington State (DBE) – Celebrating the historic 30th Anniversary of Deaf-Blind (DB) Retreat, the national DB camp, possibly international DB amp at the annual one-week fun-filled camp at Seabeck, about one hour north of Seattle, Washington State last three weeks ago. The retreat has such beautiful campsite locating surrounding the bay and mountains; includes fun-filled activities such as art & craft, bowling, bull-riding, dance, plenty of games, riding speedboats, tours, and many more…even wealth of educational workshops.

Historcally, there were unfortunately record-breaking for most participants (276) including 102 campers and 174 volunteer interpreters altogether; welcomed them coming from Australia, Canada, Germany, South America, Switzerland, and United States to gather and made new friends in high spirit. Communicating with DB foreigners, it was such interesting experiencing to speak universal sign language.

One of many fun games is “PICTIONARY” merging with pictures and dictionary together to play with soft playdoh…that way, one created picture with playdoh while other closed her/his eyes before guessing the answer. Everyone came and teamed of two players each team. Editor Dan picked up his boy, John Lee Clark as a team and won the champion with four (4) wins followed by second place finisher, Kim Powers-Smith of Texas and her partner with three (3) wins.

WHAT a COWBOY from LoUiSiAna! Editor Dan voluntarily took bull-riding, but a bull was dead by putting too much pressure on heavy weighs…poor bull! While calling a timeout, a gentleman put it back on the feet, and finally at last, Editor Dan fell down to the ground, but oh, both were DRAW (tie). Encouraged by the crowd due to unsatisfactory of the draw, Editor Dan pleased to take for second attempt but happened repeatly…the final result was DRAW by the score of Dan: 2 to bull: 2!   Go LoUiSiAna Cowboy!

A particular had brought up and encouraged everyone to swim at the cold freezing bay at 7:00 a.m. and later only 17 swimmers showed up at the first day. However, one had requested his goal to have 30 swimmers gathering to match the number of 30th anniversary but failed on the second day with only 19 swimmers. The announcement kept encouraging and telling the crowd to break the record at the cafeteria during the breakfast, and we made it with 37 swimmers on the third day. On the fourth and last day, we decided to do for more to better the record by beating the old record of 37 and DID it with 47 brave swimmers, now being proud polar bears!
