This is a series of poems that touch on Aging and Death.

Centenarian

Oh to be a centenarian
I’d have to become a vegetarian
And that is something I don’t want to do
Even if I live to be a hundred and two.

Californian Librarian

There once was a Californian Librarian
Whose wish to become a Centenarian
Meant living life as a Vegetarian.

'Tis tempting to be a meat-eating Barbarian
Why not settle for life as an Octogenarian
Or a hard-livin' Septuagenarian?

Hey Scott, a nice short poem
I wouldn't mind being a vegetarian
If I was a hundred years old
But Scott I can't see this body
Making it to 100 unless they
Recycle it in a few years.

Take care, hugs, Hab

Recycling Harvey

Harvey, why don't you just throw yourself
into the trash compactor and recycle yourself
I'll help hook you up to a battery recharger
I'll even plug you in if that will help start her
I'll jump cables and boost your tickin' ticker
Live to be a vegetarian-octogenarian
And who knows, maybe a centenarian.

I’ll not be letting Harvey off the hook, no sirree
Only when he‘s dead and cold, will I set him free.

When I Buy The Farm

Melanie, sweetie, I know that you realize
Life is not what you see with your hazel eyes
The sooner I'm willing to put my house in order
The sooner I leave this heavy burden at the border.

When I bite the bullet, kick the bucket, buy the farm
Push up the daisies, cash it in, without any alarm
I know my broken body will not be melted down
Nobody would want it in the city or the town.

But I will hang around to see who knows me
Those who are crying rivers really can not see
That my soul left its shell which served as my host
And those who know me best, I will love the most.

Which is nothing new to me, for I believe I always did
And being free the memories return which were hid
As I go to see my spirit guide who watches over me
And lay my burdens down as healing washes over me.

If Before Me ... Death Tirades

If before me, you buy the farm
Allow me to cling to your arm
Let me shed tears most warm
And recall your loving charms.

If before me, you push up a daisy
You know I'll be deliriously crazy
I'll dream about you when I'm lazy
For awhile it will be dark and hazy.

If before me, you bite the bullet
I'll feel the love your soul will emit
I'll know the life we shared was legit
When your body to earth I commit.

If before me, you cross the border
I'll remain an earth-bound boarder
Live life fit for my soul's recorder
Wait for me, my love, at the border.

If Before You, Here's What I See

If before you, I buy the farm
If so it will cost more than a leg and an arm
The cost is one earthly lifetime to buy the farm.

I'll allow you to cling to my arm
Cling to any part you like
Before cremation burns it out of sight.

I'll let you shed tears most warm
If you are close enough to the fire
The warmth is guaranteed as you desire.

And if you'll recall my loving charms
Hey, sweetie, what can I say
If you recall my charms with me, it's okay.

If before you, I push up a daisy
If I push up daisies before you come
Look for some flags, I'll send you some.

For awhile it will be dark and hazy
Dark and hazy is common for earthly kind
But I'll be bathing in light that would blow your mind.

I know you'll be deliriously crazy
If you give me a daisy, let it be a loving thought in your mind
I'll be able to read your mind without words when I cross the line.

You'll dream about me when you're lazy
In our youth we thought inactive was lazy
But in later years we know overactive is crazy.

If before you, I bite the bullet
If I bite the bullet and you say that's not me
You're right, sweetie, ‘cause my soul was set free.

You'll feel the love my soul will emit
You'll feel my love and I'll feel your love too
But don't call me back, come join me in school.

You'll know the life we shared was legit
I feel legit, our many years we shared
Because each of us about the other cared.

When my body to earth you commit
When my body lays down, my soul leaves the ground
But some people will still sense me hanging around.

If before you, I cross the border
If it happens to me first, I'll wish you a good life
But don't linger too long in that world full of strife.

You'll remain an earth-bound boarder
Now that seems to me a heavy order
The plane is so dense for an earth-bound boarder.

Live life fit for your soul's recorder
Live life well so you won't have deep regrets
Like a hare and a bird, avoid the snare and the net.

I'll wait for you, my love, at the border
I know we will plan the next stage of our lives
Will we test the theory of childhood sweethearts.

Do we take the pain first in a marriage unkind
Before meeting each other in a serendipity find
If so I'll need lots of flags right from the start.

Death

Sooner or later we all must die
To push daisies up into the sky
For loved ones we lose we cry
And yet hope to meet again
Somewhere up in the sky.

Flags Right From the Start

You know as well as I do, my dearest love
That flags must be given right from the start
And prompted by our instructors from above
To help rekindle the flame within our hearts.

If on the other side where immortals dwell
Who make weighty decisions to return to earth
Our spirit guides will plant within our brain cells
Those flags to help our souls meet with mirth.

Whether we return as childhood sweethearts
Or meet in later life in a serendipitous find
Let it all be according to our blueprint charts
Where once again our souls can be refined.
