Autumnal Leaves: A Pantoum

As a little girl I often found myself alone
Bancroft Park became my solitary playground
With no close friend in the world to call my own
My joy and happiness there would be found.

Bancroft Park became my solitary playground
Though my tiny world was silent I could feel
My joy and happiness there would be found
My oneness with all things imagined and real

Though my tiny world was silent I could feel
The sweet wildflowers and the gentle breeze
My oneness with all things imagined and real
Loved fairies who lived in the old oak trees.

The sweet wildflowers and the gentle breeze
I imagined the strumming sounds of the guitar
Loved fairies who lived in the old oak trees
And I slid on piano slides and a monkey bar.

I imagined the strumming sounds of the guitar
As I began to wing up high and to soar below
And I slid on piano slides and a monkey bar
On the swing that clanged with a hearty glow.

As I began to wing up high and to soar below
I loved the feeling of flying high through the air
On the swing that clanged with a hearty glow
Pumping my legs as the winds caressed my hair.

I loved the feeling of flying high through the air
Mighty majestic oak trees stood proud and tall
Pumping my legs as the winds caressed my hair
As leaves in fiery colors began to swirl and fall.

Mighty majestic oak trees stood proud and tall
I let go of my swing and landed softly, I believe
As leaves in fiery colors began to swirl and fall
I noticed deep layers of freshly fallen leaves.

I let go of my swing and landed softly, I believe
And I rolled down the hill until I came to a stop
I noticed deep layers of freshly fallen leaves
There I laid and riffled and tossed leaves on top.

And I rolled down the hill until I came to a stop
Soon I was filled with pungent aromas of earth
There I laid and riffled and tossed leaves on top
Rich black soil and decaying leaves by the firth.

Soon I was filled with pungent aromas of earth
Surveying my surroundings I saw trees above me
Rich black soil and decaying leaves by the firth
With sunlight streaming through a thick canopy.

Surveying my surroundings I saw trees above me
I watched leaves floating softly in slow motion
With sunlight streaming through a thick canopy
All was still and silent and moving like an ocean.

I watched leaves floating softly in slow motion
Raining autumnal colors in a heartwarming way
All was still and silent and moving like an ocean
These were my most happy and carefree days.

Raining autumnal colors in a heartwarming way
With no close friend in the world to call my own
These were my most happy and carefree days
As a little girl I often found myself alone.
