Gallagher's Gone
Gallagher's gone, yes, Gallagher's gone
He's partly his own keeper from now on
But he could come back some sunny day
Until that time he'll be far away.
A pleasant island on a seabound coast
Is the place he chose to love the most
And to be reunited with his friends
In Cape Breton, he can begin again.
There's Brittany, Tug, Lloyd, and Jessica too
And in Sydney Mines he can go to school
There's air cadets who will challenge him
And competitions that he plans to win.
Gallagher left Saturday morn on a train
Amidst snow that would soon turn to rain
Parting gave us pain like we knew it would
It was his time to go, that we understood.
Gallagher's gone, yes, Gallagher's gone
Mostly his own keeper from now on
He could come back some sunny day
Until that time he'll be far away.
We drove from Bay City to Port Huron
Crossed the Bluewater Bridge like a song
Over Lake Huron into Sarnia, Ontario
To Canada, his chosen nation, he'd go.
Made our way to the VIA rail station
For a young man of 15, it was elation
He always dressed in traditional black
With his guitar slung over his back.
In his shoulder bag was his laptop
His heavy roll-on bag carried props
Like his amp, ice skates and boots
His train rumbled in amidst toots.
Gallagher's gone, yes, Gallagher's gone
Mostly his own keeper from now on
He could come back some sunny day
Until that time he'll be far away.
We gave him hugs, said our good-byes
Watched our son board amidst our sighs
He'd be changing trains in Toronto
Just across a platform he had to go.
Switching trains again in Montreal
He arrived in Halifax his port of call
His Uncle Jackie picked him up there
His home for one night he did share.
To Cape Breton he'd go the next morn
After 2,000 miles he was tired and worn
With Aunt Lorrie, he'd make his new start
In a place that would recapture his heart.
Gallagher's gone, yes, Gallagher's gone
His parents will miss him from now on
He was a good son when he left home
We wish him success out on his own.
Gallagher's gone, yes, Gallagher's gone
Gallagher's gone, yes, Gallagher's gone.
