The DEAF BAYOU e-news
-LoUiSiAna’s e-newsletter for the Deaf, Deaf-Blind, & Hard of Hearing community citizens
Website: http://www.deafbayou.com/
Vol. l Issue 10 August, 2006 Dan Arabie, Editor
~ Gearin’ for ‘Back to School’ ~
From the Desk of Editor:
This issue (August) of the DEAF BAYOU e-news dedicates to all students of pre-school, elementary, junior high school, high school, and college in continuing the excellence of their educations. Editor urges all incoming students to keep up with education in excellence, as well as study habits and follow up ‘To Do Lists’ on the path to SUCCESS.
DEAF BAYOU WEBPAGE: In the recent final POLL asking, ‘How do you like our DEAF BAYOU webpage?’, close to 75% of those readers rated the DEAF BAYOU webpage as ‘Absolutely Beautiful’…Editor wants to thank you for your vote.
ULL BOUND: DEAF BAYOU Editor gets lots of supports from the supporters across the states among well-known doctorate, Dr. Edward Corbett, native of Shreveport, LA, in his best decision by attending University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
WIN A TV FROM SORENON VRS: There was only ONE grand prize (TV) given by Sorenson VRS at the American Association of the Deaf-Blind (AADB) national conference in Baltimore, Maryland where the editor won the prize. Upon receiving grand prize, he, in his electrifying moment, bravely stepped up onto the stage and reached to the podium, heart fully telling the crowd (thousands), ‘On behalf of our friends from New Orleans who lost their lives, homes, & properties due to Hurricane Katrina last year, I urge you all to honor that city, ‘REMEMBER NEW ORLEANS!’ and we love you all’ (tears…)
BEING OLE’ DAN: Last June 23rd I met Catherine ‘Kitty’ Hoffpauir Fischer, author of Bayou of Orchid at the cafeteria, Gallaudet University…we teased each other, ‘Who will be first grandparent’. Few days later, I was suddenly acknowledged by my oldest daughter, Kirsten, ‘You will be G-R-A-N-D-P-A’. Kirsten will be expecting her first baby due on February 5, 2007. Wave, Kitty up there…did I win a bet? J

CONSERVATION WITH JAMES DAVIS
James Davis, LSD football & track, state’s best track & Top 3 Louisiana Athlete of the year, had bumped me at my daughter Addie & her boyfriend’s apartment in Baton Rouge last few weeks ago. We both had a chance for one-to-one conservation as follows:
James: [handshake] Hi, this is me, James Davis
Editor: [handshake] Oh really, you are…this is me, Editor Dan…I am familiar with that name, James who has ‘mop-headed’ when I was at LSU track meet watching you in the last few seasons.
James: [Laughter]
Editor: Mop-headed is really COOL like celebrity being so fascinated to crazy fans.
James: [Grin]
Editor: What are your #1 favorite sports to play?
James: T-R-A-C-K is my #1 sport that I always love to run long mile, even more…my dad was football star at Ole Miss and makes me an athlete.
Editor: GREAT! I heard you missed closely being state’s top athlete of the year…are you disappointed?
James: No, no, no…I will still have an opportunity to work harder to achieve for next year.
Editor: Keep up…I will support you all the way…James, Way to go!
James: [Thank you]
Editor: What about playing football this upcoming fall?
James: I am real excited to play with my teammate, Terrell Summers for our final season and hope we could repeat to win National Deaf Prep Champion this year.
Editor: Good Luck!
James: [Thank you]
Editor: Nice to chat with you! [Handshake]
James: [handshake] Great to know you…
**Few days later James suddenly came up to my house in Lafayette and seems to enjoy seeing me again. J
