ILLY: The Swooshing Angel E-mail

The Swooshing Angel

Ms. Dot Bugkowski had had a long day running a few simple errands, going to a therapy session, and attending a meeting that no wonder she was about to drop when she finally arrived home.  After eating dinner she sank into her favorite chair to relax reading email from her BrailleNotetaker.  She had started to read when her 7 year old son, Jerome, came over to her and asked, "Mommy, can I sit in your lap and watch the Cleveland Kickers soccer game on TV?"

As tired as Dot was, she put down her BrailleNote and helped her son onto her lap.  She sat there with her right arm resting on the arm of the fluffy and soft recliner.  Her left hand was slowly moving up and down her son's back letting him know he was precious to her.

Jerome, was really enjoying the comfort of his mother's lap but keeping his eyes glued to the soccer game on TV.  Ever once in a while he would let out a whoop indicating a goal or great defensive play on the field by the Kickers.

While her son watched the game Dot sat there and let her mind wander.  She thought about a lot of things including the activities of the day.  She was so tired that she slipped into a restful doze while her son continued to watch the action on the TV.

Soon the Kickers' game was over and her son glanced over at his mother.  He saw that his Mom's eyes were closed and her head seemed to be tilted toward the right indicating she had fallen into a deep sleep.  Not wanting to disturb his mother, Jerome slowly climbed down from her lap.  When he got to the floor he looked back to see if he had woken up his mother.  Dot was still sitting peacefully in the same position she was in when Jerome began to climb down.  Assured he had not disturbed his mother, Jerome walked away.

While Dot was sound asleep in her recliner there was activity taking place in the house as Jerome's Grandma and Grandpa had come home from a quick trip to the store and unknown to Dot had picked up their son's dog Swoosh on the way home.

When he entered the house Swoosh as usual did his sniffing routine.  He ran over to where Dot still sat sound asleep, took a couple of sniffs here and there and decided he wanted to be in Dot's lap!  So he climbed into Dot's lap and with his paws on her chest took a quick slurp on Dot's cheek.  Dot did not move as she was still sound asleep!

Now, the reason Dot was sound asleep was because she was into a deep dream, a dream that had very pleasant thoughts!  Dot was so out of it that she did not feel the wet tongue of Swoosh the first time around so Swoosh decided to plant another 'kiss' on Dot's cheek.  This time Dot felt it and exclaimed, "Oh Honey, What a wonderful kiss you have, so nice and warm!"  Then she felt the furry dog and exclaimed "Get out of my lap!"  Without waiting for Swoosh to move, Dot quickly pushed the Golden Retriever out of her lap, got out of the chair and heard laughter.

There taking in the whole scene stood Jerome, Grandma, and Grandpa!

After all the laughing had died down and Jerome had given his mother a hug, Grandpa asked Dot, "Who were you calling honey?"  Without waiting for an answer, Grandpa walked away smiling ear to ear, leaving Dot with a wonderful smile on her face as well!
