Announcing DeafBlind Industries

Dear Members and Friends of the DeafBlind Community:

As a decisive step toward increasing employment and independence among DeafBlind people, we are thrilled to announce a unique enterprise: DeafBlind Industries (DBI).  At its core, DBI is a job training program that provides a fully accessible working and living environment for people with both hearing and vision loss. Clients will be provided with off-campus housing in an environment designed to promote independent living. It also offers a comprehensive job placement service, designed to assist each client in

securing gainful employment upon completion of the six-month training program.

DeafBlind Industries now has three trades available: massage therapy, knitting and hand-made fine apparel, and office administration. Clients will be immersed in six months of training and on-the-job experience that begins with an introductory one-month course in basic employment and office skills before focusing on one of the three trades for the ensuing five months. Within sixty days of successfully completing training, each client will be placed in a gainful employment setting. Depending on the employment goals of each client, clients may be placed in a company, agency, or organization; be self-employed or enter into a private partnership; or be placed in a joint venture with DBI itself.

Located in a vibrant neighborhood of Philadelphia, DBI promises to be a most stimulating experience for its clients and to be the best answer to the "right touch" for meeting employment goals while respecting and working with

DeafBlind people's diverse abilities. Clients will receive one-on-one instruction and guidance throughout the course of the training and also enjoy working together in a dynamic professional setting. Aside from the training, DBI offers a rich social opportunity where clients live independently in a housing complex with fellow trainees.

We are currently seeking DeafBlind adults to fill our first round of training. If you are interested in enrolling or know someone who might be, please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or at the address below.
